Background
The Sport Legends Trust (IT 2708/2003) was initiated and established as
a forum for past provincial and international sports persons with the view of improving
the quality of life of those
friends less fortunate than ourselves. By way of various activities
we wish to retain the comaraderie of the
past and thereby adding value and exploring
commercial opportunities. The
Trust Fund was set up to assist these sports persons and/or
their families financially in times of need.
The
Sport Legends Trust is determined to follow it's strategic
objectives as set out in it's mission statement namely:
1.
....The SLT raises capital to provide income
necessary to achieve it's objectives in the maintenance and growth of
the Trust Fund
by way of four main avenues.
Fund raising events - subject
to prior approval by the trustees with the criteria laid down by the SLT.
Sponsorships, donations and advertisers
- All advertising, sponsorships and donations, however small are welcome
as we wish to achieve as broad a base as possible. Corporate's, funding
agencies and appropriate individuals will be encouraged to make contributions.

... Retain
past comaraderie created by sport and cementing past
friendships by way of a series of golf days and/or activities in each
major centre.
3.
... SLT is committed to presenting participants
with unique opportunities through networking.
This added exposure can create commercial opportunities
and establish new contacts for both past and present provincial players.
Board
Of Trustees
The Board of Trustees is the ultimate governing body of The Trust Fund
under the leadership of the Chairperson.
The functions of the board include;
· Approving and evaluating requests and policies concerning objectives
of the fund, and
· Reviewing the strategies employed to achieve our objectives as
well as the financial statements.

The maintenance of a trust fund to assist needy past players and their
families.
· Increase exposure and networking opportunities for past provincial
players
· Exposure to wealth preservation and skills initiatives
The
board consists of 6 (six) trustees;

It
is the responsibility of each and every trustee to promote the objectives
of the Trust at all times and to advance the general and financial well
being of the fund and to maintain and enhance the capital.
Management
Committee
The Management Committee is charged with the day-to-day management of
the trust and empowered and authorized to act for and on behalf of The
Trust in accordance with the powers so granted to them by The Board of
Trustees. The Management Committee may engage employees including trustees
for the administration of Trust affairs and delegate to them such duties
as they may determine. The management committee is empowered to set out
criteria for appeals for both the allocation of funds and for fund-raising
activities. The principles guiding the formulation of these criteria are;
· Promote self-reliance, and
· Lead to lasting enrichment of the lives of participants.

Sport Legends Trust is committed to:
· Professionalism and integrity in the conduct of its activities,
· Operating on a totally non partisan basis,
· Developing long-term relationships through people-centred involvement,
· Building creative alliances based on shared values related to
common objectives.

All
Funds
raised for and on behalf of the SLT are paid directly into the SLT bank
account at FNB Mowbray.

Current Account
These
are audited by the SLT accountants namely C2M.
These funds will be used to assist beneficiaries as decided by the trustees
and to pay service providers to do administration and fund raisers for
SLT at a fee prescribed by their service contracts with the SLT and/or
as agreed to by the trustees.
Founder
Donors and Patrons
Certain individuals and corporate's were invited as founder donors and/or
patrons to some of the events, these invitations were at the discretion
of the Trustees. Although these founder donors and patrons will receive
accreditation as such, they will have no further formal commitment to
the trust except for being willing allies in the form of their intellectual
expertise.
Sport
Legends Magazine
It is the
intention of the SLT to appoint a service provider to publish a Sport
Legends magazine as a further source of funds. It will be a informative
publication for and about sport legends, events and activities and a marketing
tool for sponsors and advertisers.
How
the SLT operates
Through
sports a unique development model is evolving in SA.
People
from all walks of life, business, government, labour and communities themselves,
are coming together in focused alliance to play a powerfull role in reconstruction
and reconciliation to build a common future that will provide the foundation
of a peacefull and prosperous inclusive society in this wonderful land
of ours. The management of SLT as been built on this model.
