Eddie Fuller

Dear Bossie,

I am an anaethetist at Somerset Hospital (Green Point) and about a month ago a had to deal with an Edward Fuller who had broken his hip after a fall. He is 72 years old and on taking a history from him pre-op, I realized this was Eddie Fuller the ex Springbok cricketer who toured Australia under Jack Cheetham in 1953, and then England with Jackie Mcglew's team.

He is quite articulate and has good re-call, but must have fallen on hard times as his address is The Salvation Army in Alfred St, Cape Town. Alcohol is certainly not the problem as he was very lucid and showed no withdrawal symptoms post-op.

A couple of weeks ago I saw you on TV punting fund-raising via a golf day to assist ex sporting stars and their families who might be in need, and wonder whether he would fall into this category. I recorded a telephone number from the front of the hospital and made some enquiries and he definitely is destitute.

I hope that you will be able to assist in this matter.

Regards,

Colin Sparg

Hylton Ackerman and Bossie Clarke visited Eddie Fuller at the home he is in . He is presently bedridden due to a recent fall , but still very bright and cheerfull. In fact Hylton and he got on very well reminiscing about their careers in England . We also teased him about getting Neal Harvey out - ............ on 205 !!!

The SLT is presently looking at various options to assist Eddie in the situation he's in. Eddie was invited to the recent SA vs England test match to the President's suite and cocktail party after the match. Barry Richards also invited Eddie to join him in the commentators box. Eddie declined these invitations due to health reasons.
